Academic Studies
Instructor: Diane Driggers
Academic Studies include skills involved with learning money, math, and time skills.  Also included is Language Arts skills.  Some examples of functional academics involved with math and language skills are listed below:

Calculator use for addition of meal prices, budgeting money for purchases, telling time to different increments, figuring money amounts for vending machines or purchases, setting alarm clock times, obtaining information from businesses through phone use, personal information and safety, following school/community events.

Most skill areas are broken down into steps, so that our students benefit from learning steps within bigger skill areas, and are individualized for each student.

Other math and language activities our students enjoy include:
1.  Celebrating birthdays with cooking activities and measurement games
2.  Penpal letters to peers and/or friends
3.  Practice with academic skills through task bag activities
4.  Reading picture symbol signs within school and community areas
